So it's the 14th anniversary of deviantART and a couple of people I know did this so may as well.
Heres my story.
So I started the website by the alias 'billyb1999' in 2010 I think and seeing as I was 10 or 11 when I started, I was banned a year later for underage usage. I made few friends on the account and I was fairly bad at drawing back then, Though when I got banned it didn't stop me from creating a new account a few months later. I created this account, Originally called 'Hadestheleader' and I pretended to be a friend of myself because I was banned on the other account. I eventually just started being myself again for the account and started making friends and learning more about drawing from the people I watched.
The main person who I became friends with on this website was 'ChloeSkitty' or her new account name now which is 'Hope-Shard'. She and I became instant best friends and always chatted and drew each other. We were very much both into Sonic and Pokemon so we just clicked I guess. She's probably one of the most coolest people I know.
Anyway, I started to advance my style more and tried using different programs such as Paint.NET or Paint Tool SAI instead of MS Paint. I learned how to use layers with those and made a few drawings with them. In early 2012 I downloaded a trial of Adobe Flash Professional and I was instantly in love. I couldn't animate but I loved the lines and what the program could do with effects.
Though when I heard that Edd Gould had passed away back in March of 2012 I figured that I wanted to make stuff that was a tribute to Edd but I couldn't do that because I had no idea how to properly animate cartoons. So I went to learning some animation tips from an animation company that were nearby and I learned some things. It was a great help. Though I never really tried to animate something until late that year. I did small animations but I mostly just drew throughout this website.
Alright, Let's just say I drew a lot of fan art and OC's for them. Though early 2013 I began animating an original series based off of Eddsworld as kinda like a tribute to Edd. I put it on Youtube and after a while it got a following, People really liked it and it had a feel of Eddsworld which I was happy with. So I kept doing the show, Though I changed the style a lot throughout the time I made it because it looked way to much like EW. Then on Halloween I finally released the first part of my Halloween special, 'The Hallo-Weenies' on Youtube. Eventually putting it up on here after I had completed both parts on Christmas and I got great feedback from it.
Though, Before I made that episode. I wrote to a guy who was making an Eddsworld movie. I asked him if he needed any animation tips and if he did, Just to ask. He replied with a proposition that I come on board as an animator for the movie and I agreed. It's been a long year and we're finally getting production done.
In about January of this year, I became good friends with Paul ter Voorde and while he worked on Fun Dead because the director of the movie 'SuperSmash3DS' knew him. We were chatting at one stage and out of the blue he sent me a file of what he was animating. It was a scene where zombies were chasing Tom and Edd. I looked at the zombies and freaked out so badly. He had added me in as a zombie for Fun Dead and I was astonished. I was in an Eddsworld episode! It was amazing seeing as Edd was my inspiration to start cartooning in the first place.
So now I'm here. Co-Producer of an Eddsworld movie, friends with some people from Eddsworld, working on episode 5 of my original show 'Billys Toon Times', making videos every week on Youtube with 400+ subs, I have amazing friends and contacts and most importantly, I've come from a MS Paint loving 11 year old to a 15 year old freelance independant Flash animator on Youtube with great friends.
So that's my story, It may be a bit full and not fully about dA but this is the website that made all this happen. So thanks deviantART, You're great. Also, I love you everyone :3
